I/ VOCABULARY: 
Types of films (Các loại phim) -ed and –ing adjectives (Tính từ tận cùng là –ed và 
 –ing)
romantic (lãng mạn) embarrassing/ embarrassed (bối rối, lúng túng) 
comedy (hài) disappointing/ disappointed (thất vọng)
science-fiction (khoa học viễn tưởng) exhausting/ exhausted (lo lắng)

II/ GRAMMAR: 
1/ Connectors: although, despite, in spite of, however, nevertheless
a/ Although, despite, in spite of (mặc dù, cho dù): được dùng để diễn đạt sự tương phản giữa 
hai mẩu thông tin hoặc hai hành động trong cùng một câu.
 - Although + S + V , S + V 
 = S + V  + although + S + V 
Lưu ý: Sau although là một mệnh đề.
Ex: Although he is so young, he performs excellently.
 He performs excellently although he is so young.
- Despite / In spite of + noun/ noun phrase , S + V 
Lưu ý: Sau despite / in spite of là một danh từ hoặc một cụm danh từ.
Ex: Despite being so young, he performs excellently.
 In spite of his young age, he performs excellently.
- Although the weather was bad, he went out.
→ Despite bad weather, he went out.
→ In spite of bad weather, he went out. 
* Khi dùng although, despite, in spite of ta không dùng but và ngược lại khi dùng but ta 
không dùng although, despite, in spite of. 
Ex: Although he is so young, he performs excellently.
 Despite/ In spite of his young age, he performs excellently.
 He is so young, but he performs excellently.
b/ However, nevertheless (tuy nhiên, tuy thế mà): được dùng để diễn đạt sự tương giữa hai 
câu. Sau ‘however, nevertheless’ có dấu phẩy.
Ex: 
- She is tired. She has to finish her homework.
→ She is tired. However, she has to finish her homework.
→ She is tired. Nevertheless, she has to finish her homework.
2/ Tính từ tận cùng là –ed và –ing 
- Tính từ tận cùng là –ed được dùng để diễn tả trạng thái hoặc cảm xúc của một người (đối 
với người, vật hoặc sự việc nào đó). Nó mang nghĩa bị động.
Ex: Nga is interested in music.

adjectives.

2/ Complete the sentences, using although, despite/ in spite of. Sometimes, two answers 
are possible.

sentences if necessary.

Model writing:
 I really like the film Forrest Gump. It is a romantic comedy with the acting of Tom 
Hanks.
 It’s about the life of a stupid ugly man, Forrest and his love for a neighbor girl, Jenny. 
The film is moving and hilarious. The ending is happy because they have good life and a son.
 The acting of two characters is very good. The music is interesting and suitable for 
film content. The visuals are beautiful with scenery of countryside, crowded cities in USA.
 The critics say that it is the best film with moving scenes and meaningful messages. I 
think that the film is so wonderful from actor, actress to visual, music.
